DESIGN FOR US
INTRODUCTION
As well as doing print designs for our t-shirts in house Collect London also relies on the contribution of designers from all over the world. We invite artists from all walks of life to submit designs to us for each future collection. Each theme is based around a theme (explained below).
HOW TO GET INVOLVED:
1. HAVE A LOOK AT OUR CURRENT COLLECTION AND NEXT COLLECTION THEME
Visit our shop www.collectlondon.com to view the current collection so you can see the kind of work we like - this will give you an idea of whether you've got what it takes to design for us. The theme for our next collection is as follows:
THEME – 'FOLK FANTASY'
folk
1 The common people of a society or region considered as the representatives of a traditional way of life and especially as the originators or carriers of the customs, beliefs, arts and crafts, legends and superstitions that make up a distinctive culture.
2 A certain kind, class or group of people – athletes, musicians, artists, surfers, writers, skaters, young, old, introvert, extrovert, creative, practical, tribal etc
fantasy
Creative imagination, imagination unrestricted by reality.
DESIGN DIRECTION – photographic, polaroid, collage, monochrome, block colour, minimal, hand drawn, sketched, naive, lithographic, abstract, faded / muted colours, patterns
Please note the theme is only a starting point... and 'folk' doesn't necessarily mean people around a campfire!
2. SHOW US SOME EXAMPLES OF YOUR PREVIOUS WORK
Designing is a very subjective business – one person’s love may be another’s hate – and so what you think is amazing, we might not like as much. Also a great piece of artwork will not necessarily work on a t-shirt. We therefore ask that you first upload up to 3 examples of work from your portfolio with a few lines explaining your choices, that you think proves your suitability for designing for this collection as well as the design direction we want to take (explained above). Instead of asking you to submit your work straight away we want to save time and disappointment by checking your portfolio out first. If you do however want to cut this step out and create designs around the theme straight away then you're welcome to (make sure you email direct to us though - see step 4 below).
Note please quote ‘FOLK FANTASY – DESIGN EXAMPLES’ when you upload your designs.
DEADLINE FOR SENDING IN PREVIEWS - 15TH DECEMBER 2009
3. IF WE LIKE WHAT WE SEE WE’LL INVITE YOU TO SUBMIT
We’ll send you a detailed brief of the kind of work we are looking for first. However if we don’t think your work is right we’ll let you know but you can always try submitting something else which itself might be right.
4. CREATE YOUR DESIGNS!
Once you’ve created your monumental designs(s) you should email them to us at design@collectlondon.com. We’re happy for you to run any initial ideas by us first though as we don’t want you spending ages doing something which may never work – feel free to call or email us to discuss.
DEADLINE FOR FINAL SUBMISSIONS - 5TH JANUARY 2010
5. DESIGN APPROVAL
If you’re design is approved and printed you will receive a fixed commission for every t-shirt sold (£1 / t-shirt), your very own t-shirt with your design on, as well as a whopping 50% off purchases from our online store. You will also be featured in the Designers area of our website where people will be able to view profiles of all artists from each collection.
We know it can take a while to put a good idea together so we’ll do our best to work with designers to bring a design forward if there is potential. Inevitably though we will have to decline work which we feel is not suitable. In these instances we will do our best to provide constructive feedback. We hope that even if your design is not chosen it will still be a great piece of work that will add to your portfolio.
6. SPREAD THE WORD!
As designers will be paid on a commission basis we will do our best to promote and sell their designs as much as possible - through marketing, PR, industry shows, wholesale and so on (after all it's in our interest too). But we also need the designers themselves to help promote and spread the word. How you can help do your bit will be explained in more detail if your design is successful.
